sea_of_symbols

a_new_day_in_the_workshop was the first release in a newly-cemented direction for my personal music releases: a fully open-source stack.

The goal was (and is) to make music using virtual instruments and DAWs that allow the project files to be shared and fully explorable – from composition, to automation, to sound design. Ideally, for anything the listener hears, they can then drill down and learn exactly how it was made, to the parameter-specific level.

While this first a_new_day_in_the_workshop included tools that were not all open-source themselves (later albums finally achieved that), people with the right commercial tools can certainly explore the composition projects.

sea_of_symbols takes some level of influence from David Wise’ Aquatic Ambience, amongst many underwater game themes, albeit with less instrumentation. It was also one of my first tracks utilizing resampling of synthesized instruments – a technique at the core of 90s game music that always resonates with me.
