Still in the realm of MIDI being passed between different software, I found that Helio is a very robust piano-roll-based MIDI sequencer. So I swapped out OpenMPT for Helio for this track. I would recommend this, other than the fact you still run into MIDI timing issues when only working “inside the box”.
Another technique I started playing with in this track was chopping up, pitch shifting, and layering audio in Audacity. I feel this works very well for the final result, but due to the destructive editing of Audacity, does mean I am no longer making a fully open-source project. Hopefully I can find a way to do both..
As for the aesthetic of this track, it ended up leaning towards inspirations of Kirby and Nintendo console menus. Fairly simple sounding, but happily pleasant in the background.
