The first lab on Azurus was built into a deep cave network by the Helix monk-scientists of Saphna. It lacks doors and operates entirely underwater – the researchers instead choose to wear air-tight mobility suits for oxygen. While its waters hang suspended in a pitch-dark blue glow against the worn turquoise of their infrastructure, the bioluminescent fauna gliding through flash its rooms into visible light.

Coming from a planet where it always rains, the Saphnese deemed it important to study the biology that thrives on planet that is entirely ocean. Drawing from their religious background, the lab’s core approach to studying the wildlife is one of non-violence. Instead the researchers optioned to create safe spaces for the fauna to come to them of its own volition to be observed.
